How to Use Accesskeys:

Accesskeys enable site navigation via the keyboard, without using a mouse or touchpad. (Please note: not all browsers support accesskeys.)

Using Windows® browsers:

  1. To select a link: Simultaneously press the Alt key and the accesskey (see the list above) for the desired link. [Example: Press '9' and 'Alt' to select the 'Contact' link.]
  2. To follow the selected link: Press the Enter (or 'Return') key.
  3. To move to (and select) the next link on the page: Press the Tab key.

Using Mac browsers:

Press the Ctrl key (instead of the Alt key, as for Windows® browsers - see above) and the desired accesskey.

Quick Accessibility Facts

Accesskeys, or keyboard shortcuts, are preferred by many users not just to avoid using a mouse or touchpad but also for their speed in navigating websites.

Not all browsers support accesskeys. Browsers may also have 'built-in' shortcut key combinations that may not be compatible with the accesskeys designated on some websites.
